AND NO, BIDEN CAN’T LEGALLY CANCEL STUDENT LOAN DEBTS: The Student Loan Scam
In this PowerLine post, attorney John Hinderaker looks at the legal argument the Dems are using to defend the idea that the president can just waive off student loan debts and find it to be “ridiculous.” It sure is. But I go further and say not just that Congress has not given the president blanket authority to cancel student loan debts, but that it can’t because the whole concept is unconstitutional. Nowhere in the Constitution is there any authority for the federal government to lend money to students. It won’t do to try stretching the General Welfare Clause or the Commerce Clause to somehow mean that Congress can lend to students (or any other group for that matter). If the Founders had meant to give Congress power to lend money, they’d have clearly said so. They didn’t.
